More Details About The Product

It is mainly used as a commercial product as well as an industrial mineral. When heated, this mineral becomes porous and expands. Its volume can expand approx. twenty times of its original when heated at the temperature ranging from 900oC to 1100oC. It not only becomes porous and light weight, but also gets properties, like surface cooling and absorbency. The resultant exfoliated perlite finds use in refractories, accoustics manufacturing and sound proofing.

What is Perlite Ore?

Perlite is a volcanic glassy rock with high water content. It is formed by the obsidian hydration, or protrusion's microscopic lamellar structures or fractures. This naturally occurring rock when heated starts to expand. Once processed, this rock becomes light in weight.

Properties of Perlite Ore

When Perlite Ore is heated, this mineral becomes porous and expands. Its volume can expand approx. twenty times its original when heated at the temperature ranging from 900oC to 1100oC. It not only becomes porous and light weight, but also gets properties, like surface cooling and absorbency. The resultant exfoliated Perlite Ore finds various uses in refractories, acoustics manufacturing and sound proofing.

Application of Perlite Ore

The affordable, low density perlite is used in several commercial applications, some of them are mentioned here:

  • Insulation & ceiling tiles, plasters & mortars in the building & construction industry.
  • Amend the properties of soil and prevent soil compaction in horticulture.
  • Filter beverages, like beer before bottling process.
  • It is used as a clay additive in ceramics.
  • Aggregate in Mortar.
  • Fabric ageing material in the textile industry.
  • Glass-making.
  • Steel industry & foundry as a slag remover.
  • It is mainly used as a commercial product as well as an industrial mineral.
